Puppies on the Farm

Maggie’s latest litter … so fun, so lovable, so friendly.  We are enjoying the summertime litter. They are so cute and love going outside.  Our grandchildren love to come over and play with the puppies, and both can’t get enough!

The puppies started “real” puppy food this past week and are absolutely loving it!  Maggie still feeds them quite a few times during the day.  At the end of the week, they will be eating puppy food 2 times per day, and eventually will eat 4 times a day once they are weaned.

Go Home Date:  August 27

Fall at the Farm

Our pigs have all been butchered and customers will be coming this weekend to pick up their delicious pork.  We are excited for that first bite of bacon!  The last beef butchering for the year was in early October.  We will be picking the beef up at the butcher next week, and providing 16 quarters to local customers.  This grass fed beef has more Omega 3’s than fish!  It tastes great, its lean and healthy and so convenient to have a selection of prime cuts always available in the freezer.  The beef comes wrapped, weighed, labeled and frozen.  So convenient!  So healthy!  So delicious!

One more hay cutting of the season will be going to our friends at Pleasant View Farms from Somers, CT.  We appreciate partnering with local farms in Ellington and Somers.

July 16 – Vet Day!

We will be taking the litter to the  vet on July 16 for their check up and shots.  It’s a big moment …. loading 10 puppies in the crate … unloading 10 puppies into the exam room.  You get the idea.  Lots of puppies.  Weight, check up, shots, weight check up, shots, weight, check up, shots X 10!

Yesterday we began feeding them puppy food.  Their first few feedings are a little messy, but they get the hang of it pretty quick!  Then they scramble to be closer to the dish than their brothers and sisters.

4th of July this year will be celebrated in style … with 10 puppies + Maggie.  It will be fun for sure!

Please contact us if you know of loving homes that would like an AKC Golden Retriever.  We are accepting deposits.  Call us at 860-324-2520

Sunset Valley Goldens …

Maggie just had her second litter of adorable Golden Retriever AKC puppies.  They are cute & cuddly, just like her last litter.  This litter began arriving on Sunday morning (like really, really early 12:15 a.m. early)  June 6.  She has 10 healthy puppies and we are excited!!  She had 3 females and 7 males.  There are 5 sold and 5 still available to be adopted into loving homes.  Don’t hesitate to touch base if you know of someone looking for a sweet golden puppy.  Check out the Photo Gallery for the pictures.  I will be updating weekly!

Again, feel free to reach out or pass our information along to anyone wanting more information on these little sweeties!  860-324-2520

Beef Bones

We have lots of beef bones in stock. Please let us know if you’d like some.  Grass fed beef bones make a delicious, hearty bone broth or soup stock.  They are also well loved by your favorite canine!  Call Steve at 860-670-0495 or email Jan at jklmoser@gmail.com to get a box of bones!

Pork

We are taking orders for pork!  Half or whole pig – let us know what you would like.  We ask for a $150 deposit to reserve your pork; we order in April and butcher in October.  Give Steve a call at 860-670-0495 or email Jan at jklmoser@gmail.com to reserve your pork.

Grass Fed Beef – Butcher Time

We took 3 beef to the butcher last Wednesday!  Time for some beef!  Good news is that the beef is all spoken for, bad news is that the beef is all spoken for!  We have a wait list for anyone wanting local grass fed beef.  We will contact you if you are next on the wait list and offer you a quarter.  Let us know if you would like to be placed on the list!  jklmoser@gmail.com or 860-670-0495.

Puppy Events

January 19 is vet day for our puppies.  We will be taking 9 wiggly puppies to the vet for their first check up and shots.  It will be an adventure to be sure, and I think a 2 person job!

January 25 is “Go To My New Home Day”.  The big day when all of our puppies will be officially adopted into their new loving families.  We are excited about all the wonderful people we have met, and have confidence that our puppies are going to be well loved and cared for.  It will be bittersweet for us – fun to see the happy family getting a new puppy – sad for us that this season is over.

Thank you to all who have inquired.  If you are still looking for a puppy, please let us know and we will add you to our future litter list.

Puppies on the Farm

Our favorite farm dog, Maggie, had a litter of puppies yesterday!  We are so excited to heading into winter with 10 adorable AKC puppies.  (Our grass fed beef just aren’t nearly this fun to play with!)  Just in time for Christmas.  These puppies will be with us until January 24, when they will be heading off to their new homes.  Maggie is doing a great job as a first time mom!

Please give us a call if you know of anyone interested in owning one of these adorable puppies.  860-324-2520 or jklmoser@gmail.com

Update on Beef & Pork

Wow!  We wouldn’t have guessed that we would be here 3 short months ago!  Life has certainly taken on some twists and turns.  We hope and pray all of our customers are remaining safe & healthy, and are prayerful for those who have met with sickness and tragedy.  We are all in this together, that is for sure.   We all need to remember that this social distancing is helping us stay healthy!

On the farm, our beef and pork have been popular items.  We will be getting our piglets here in the next couple of weeks.  We are excited to be getting 10 or 11 this year.  It will be fun to care for and feed them this summer.  I’m looking forward to getting fresh fruits and veges from our local market.  They love the food, and I love feeding them!

Our beef is all sold for 2020.  We have a wait list for February, 2021.  If you are interested in getting on that list, please email us at jklmoser@gmail.com, provide us with your name, address and cell phone, and we will put you on the list!

Beef Butchering for 2020

We will be butchering 3 steers at the end of February, ready for your freezer the early part of March.  We still have a few quarters available for this butchering, so if you’d like to get on the list, send us an email at  jklmoser@gmail.com or give us a call.

We plan to butcher three more times throughout this year.

Think Spring … 2020

Its easy to think about spring today … beautiful sunshine and mild temperatures.  When we think about spring, we think about piglets.  My favorite on the farm is when we get our new batch of piglets to feed and care for.

If you are interested in purchasing pork this fall, we need to order a piglet this spring.  We pre-order all of our piglets, so if you are interested, give us a call or email us at jklmoser@gmail.com.  We will be happy to add you to our list.  We take a $150 deposit for the pork.

How much to order?  Half or whole?  We raise our piglets from about 18 lbs to almost 300 lbs.  The hanging weight of a half is 100 lbs and a whole is 200 lbs.  So, depending on how much bacon you want, determines whether you want a half or whole!

We look forward to hearing from you!

Butcher Date for Pigs

We have set our butcher date for the pigs.  They will be leaving the farm on September 26.  After butchering, some of the meat will be going to The Butchery in East Windsor, where Greg does a great job of smoking the hams and bacon.  So, the pork will be ready for customer pick up some time during the first week of October.

Final Beef Butchering for 2019

Our last butchering for 2019 of two steers will be next week, on September 10.  All the quarters are sold at this time.  We will be planning our first 2020 butchering in January.

Thanks for your business in 2019!  We butchered a total of 12 steers this year and plan on the same for 2020.  If you’re interested in a quarter for January, please let us know.  We have sold a few, and have 5 quarters available.

Enjoy this beautiful almost fall weather!

Beef Butchering – January 22

We plan to butcher 4 steers on January 22.  As of today, January 9th, there are four quarters yet available for purchase.  We sell our beef in quarters, halves or whole cows.  We also sell by the box – usually 35 – 40 lbs.  Let us know if you’re interested!

Time to Order

We will be ordering our new piglets for 2019 in late March.  So, if you’re wanting pork for this fall, send us an email or give us a call so we get your pig ordered.  We pre-sell all of our pigs and ask for a $150 deposit.  Pork is sold by the half or whole.  Generally, a whole pig weighs about 200 lbs hanging weight.  The pigs will be butchered in mid October.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Pigs – Butcher Date

Our pigs are going to be butchered on Thursday, October 11.  We had five this year at Sunset Valley Farms.  They’ve had a good growing season of 6 months and now are ready to go to market.  It’s always interesting to find out their weights!  They sure do like to eat, especially all those fruits and vegetables from Johnny Appleseed.  We will miss them when they’re gone, but enjoy a little break also.  We will be in touch with you and let you know next Spring when we will be getting our 2019 batch.

Preparing for Fall and Winter on the Farm

We just butchered our last beef for the season.  We will be butchering again late January, 2019.  A special “Thank You” to all of our 2018 beef customers!  We appreciate your business!  Right now we are down to 10 steers, with plans to add 6 more in November and then 6 more in the Spring.  Our calves come from a farm in Suffield, CT where they feed on their mothers until we get them at 6 months old.  It’s always fun to get the young ones and watch them integrate with the others.

Next Butchering – August / September, 2018

Our next butchering will be Mid August with beef ready in early September.  This will be our last butchering for 2018!  Please give us a call and put your name on the list for the tastiest, grass fed beef around.  We are selling by the quarter, half or 35  – 50 lb box.  Feel free to stop by and visit our farm and see how the beef are being raised.  Happy, healthy beef on acres of lush grass providing them with the nutrients needed for delicious meat from our farm to your table.

Spring, 2018 Piglets

We plan to be purchasing our piglets in mid-April.  Our pigs are raised here on the farm for about 6 – 7 months and feed out at about 200 lbs by the end of October.  We are planning for a late October butchering.  Let us know if you’d like to purchase a half or whole pig.  Berkshire pigs are what we will be purchasing; they are born right here in Ellington by a local farmer.

We take orders for the pigs ahead of time, and only purchase what we are going sell.  So, if you’d like to reserve a pig, give us a call!

Next Butchering – April / May, 2018

We have 2 beef at the butcher right now and they are sold.  We have available quarters, halves and 1/3 of a quarter for the April / May butchering.  The beef will be ready mid-May.

Remember, all of our beef is butchered at a local, USDA inspected butcher shop.  The meat is labeled, vacuum sealed and frozen when you pick it up.  The cuts may vary slightly from butchering to butchering.  There is always lots of burger, and steaks, roasts and some miscellaneous cuts.  We have been getting requests for bones – so we always have lots of bones for you.  Check out our latest recipe for healthful bone broth.  Additionally, special requests are taken into consideration.  Right now we have a customer requesting kidney, tongue and spleen.

We aim to please and make customer satisfaction our number 1 priority!  Let us know how we can serve you!

Future Butchering – January, 2018 – SOLD

Our next beef butchering is going to be in January, 2018. There are a couple of quarters still available, so if you want a quarter, be sure to give us a call so we can put your name on one.

Reserve your Pork …2018

We are now taking order for pigs for next year. Feel free to give us a call or send an email to get your name on the list for our Berkshire pigs.

Pigs Butchering Scheduled for November 1
Our pigs are just about ready for the butcher! They have grown by leaps and bounds this summer. Their favorite foods are peaches and tomatoes. We continue to supplement their diet with fresh fruits and vegetables from Johnny Appleseed Farms here in Ellington. The pigs go “hog wild” over this fresh produce! They are scheduled to go to the butcher on November 1. I will be sad to see them go – I love to watch them eat and grow. And they’ve been doing that a lot this year!
