Sunset Valley Farms –  Grass Fed Beef

Grass Fed Beef is widely acknowledged as a more healthy food than grain fed beef.  Cattle feed used in conventional beef farming may contain a mixture of  hay with up to 75-85% high-energy grains and grain by-products. Grains  include oats, barley, sorghum, distillers (brewers) grains, and by-products.

What your beef cattle are fed directly affects the nutritive value as well as the taste. The diet of the cattle actually changes the nutrients and fats you get from eating beef. Grass-fed beef may have some heart-health benefits that other types of beef don’t have.

To directly quote Rekha Mankad, M.D., ‘when compared with other types of beef, grass-fed beef may have:
• Less total fat
• More heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids
• More conjugated linoleic acid, a type of fat that’s thought to reduce heart disease and cancer risks
• More antioxidant vitamins, such as vitamin E
